Terms of use

Effective 26 October 2026

Who we are

StarJar is provided by LaserCloud Pty Ltd (ABN 62 686 458 515), Victoria, Australia ("we", "us"). By creating a family or using StarJar you agree to these terms. Please read them with our Privacy policy.

The service

StarJar is a web app where kids earn stars for routines, chores, reading and learning, and grown-ups set it all up. It runs in a web browser on tablets, phones and computers, and is offered to families in Australia.

Your account

A grown-up aged 18 or over creates the family and is responsible for it: give us an email you can read, keep the StarJar password private, look after the family's devices and supervise the kids' use. Devices stay signed in until you sign them out. Sign out any device you no longer have (Grown-ups' zone > Sign out this device), or change the password to sign out every device.

The plan and price

  • Every new family gets its first month free, with no card needed.
  • After that StarJar costs A$5 a month per family, GST included. To keep going, add a card in Grown-ups' zone > Billing. We charge it every month on the same date until you cancel. Stripe processes the payments.
  • We may give out codes for free time: some make StarJar free for good, some add free months. One code per family. Codes have no cash value.
  • We email a tax invoice for every charge. They are also in Grown-ups' zone > Billing.

If a payment doesn't go through

If free time ends without a card, or a charge doesn't go through, StarJar keeps working for 7 days so you can add or change your card. After that StarJar rests: kids see a rest screen, and grown-ups can use only Billing, Change password and Sign out. Nothing is deleted while StarJar rests. Restarting charges A$5 that day and monthly from then, and brings everything back.

Cancelling

Cancel any time in Grown-ups' zone > Billing > Cancel StarJar. There are no more charges, and StarJar stays on until the end of the period you've paid for (or your free time), then rests. You can change your mind before then with Keep StarJar, or restart later. We don't refund part months, except where the law requires it.

Your consumer rights

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms takes away those rights.

Using StarJar fairly

Use StarJar for your own family. Don't try to get into another family's StarJar or our systems, overload or disrupt StarJar, copy or resell it, or put anything unlawful or harmful in it. If a family does, we may pause or close its StarJar and we'll tell the grown-up by email.

Availability

We work hard to keep StarJar running and back it up every night, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults. We may pause it for maintenance and we may change or improve features. If we ever stop StarJar, we'll email you at least 30 days before and refund any paid time you haven't used.

Your information

We handle your family's information as our Privacy policy says. What you add stays yours; you let us store and show it so StarJar can work.

Changes to the price or these terms

We may change the price or these terms. We'll email the grown-up of each family at least 30 days before a price change or an important change applies. If you don't agree, you can cancel before it applies.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. This doesn't limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. The courts of Victoria, and the courts that hear appeals from them, can decide any dispute.
